Sunan Ampel is one of the most respected figures in the history of Islam's spread in Indonesia, especially on the island of Java. He was one of the Wali Songo, the nine saints who played a significant role in spreading Islam across Java in the 15th century. Sunan Ampel's tomb, located in Surabaya, has now become one of the most important religious pilgrimage destinations, not only for Muslims but also for anyone seeking peace and blessings in this historic place. Sunan Ampel, whose real name was Raden Rahmat, was a great scholar from Champa (now part of Vietnam). He was one of the Wali Songo who played a crucial role in spreading Islam in Java, particularly in Surabaya. Sunan Ampel is also known as the teacher of Sunan Giri, Sunan Drajat, and Sunan Bonang, who continued his work in spreading Islam across Indonesia. According to history, Sunan Ampel began his mission in Ampel Denta (now known as the Ampel area in Surabaya) around the year 1421. It was here that he established a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) and preached Islam with a gentle and loving approach. To this day, Sunan Ampel's tomb complex remains a significant historical site and a center for prayer and pilgrimage for Muslims from all over Indonesia.
